Get ready to welcome Christmas with Newbattle Abbey College

Newbattle Abbey College would like to invite you to a festive occasion for all this November with an event guaranteed to kick start your winter celebrations.

Scotland’s only adult residential college is inviting families and local residents to join students and staff for the annual ‘Christmas at Newbattle’ fair.
The event will be held on Saturday 17th November from 11am to 4pm in the College’s beautiful historic building.

The festivities include a stunning Christmas Craft Fair with a vast range of individual stallholders set to attend offering a wide range of delicious, beautiful and unique festive treats in the Edwin Muir Room and the quaint Crypt area of the College.

There will be festive music, song and poetry readings held in the College’s exquisite Drawing Room and Chapel with Newbattle’s very own ‘Rough and Ready Choir’ leading the carols. The choir, made up of 30 staff, students and local friends and family, will be performing a repertoire of Christmas songs, old and new, from around the world. Visitors will also be treated to some Gaelic singing and language taster sessions.

There’s also word a very special guest is set to pop in from the North Pole just to visit all the well behaved children of Midlothian. Rumour has it Santa’s due to make a stop at the College!

For those looking to enjoy the outdoors, the ‘Christmas at Newbattle’ fair will also provide winter woodland walks for anyone wishing to take part in a tour of the College’s extensive and breathtaking grounds. Tour guides will lead organised groups along the stunning river bank or into the ancient woodlands.

There will also be an opportunity to purchase logs and kindling as well as bird feeders and boxes produced in the College by the current Rural Skills students.

For those who wish to warm up inside there will be hot soup, snacks and mulled wine available throughout the day.

The event costs £2 for adults and is free for children with free parking facilities also.
