James Watt College has welcomed the appointment of
Stephen Brannagan as Ayrshire Regional Lead.
Stephen, who is currently the Chair of the Board of
Management of Kilmarnock College, will now oversee plans to merge Kilmarnock
College, Ayr College and James Watt College’s North Ayrshire Campus.
Sue Pinder, Principal of James Watt College,
commented: “Stephen brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to this
demanding and incredibly important role. I welcome this appointment and look
forward to working with him as we create a new regional college that benefits
everyone in Ayrshire.”
Stephen replaces Professor Russel Griggs who has
decided to stand down with immediate effect. From the outset Professor Griggs,
who was appointed earlier this year, made it clear he would not be looking to
Chair the region beyond the implementation of the new legislation and, given
the need for continuity and stability in leadership while the merged college is
established, has decided now is the right time to step aside in Ayrshire.
Stephen Brannagan, who will stand down as Chair of
Kilmarnock College, said: “I am delighted to have been asked by the Cabinet
Secretary to take on the role of leading the regionalisation of further
education in Ayrshire. I am looking forward to working with the Ayrshire
Partnership Board and the three Ayrshire colleges as we build together on the
achievements of the past and create a vision for success in the future. We will
work with all our stakeholders to ensure that a new college for Ayrshire will
meet the needs of our communities and provide the very best learning
opportunities for students.”
