Stow College stages a musical, colourful celebration of diversity
A three day celebration of cultural diversity has taken place at
Stow College.
Now in its third year, Diversifest celebrates the College’s rich
history in welcoming students from every corner of the globe.
Among the entertainment at this year’s event were Brazillian
capoiera dancers, performing a mixture of martial arts and musical movement.
Students were also given the chance to taste delicious food and learn new
skills in a series of world workshops including a bongo drum masterclass.
With over 70 different nationalities in its student population,
Stow College has become a centre of learning for students from across the globe
forming strong links with countries including India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and
Nigeria. There are also students from as far afield as Nepal and Hong Kong .
Margaret Cairns, Transitional Projects Manager at Stow College,
commented: “Stow College has an incredibly rich and diverse mix of students and
that’s something we’re proud to celebrate. I’m always impressed by how much
everyone in the college embraces events like these. It’s a real opportunity for
staff and students to understand and learn from each other, which can only be a
good thing for everyone.
“We do everything we can to make sure all students have a great
experience throughout their studies and help them to feel very welcome. We also
have excellent contact with many partners in Glasgow who offer their own
support and assistance to help our new students settle in to life in Scotland.
The Scottish education system is highly praised around the world and our
international students know that gaining qualifications at Stow College will
provide them with excellent experience and skills to take home”.
